This year's Christmas has come and gone, but the memories left behind by the festival is more of a lesson and proverbial saying, "Cut your coat according to your cloth", as economic situation of Nigeria has not really helped matter.
Many households, the message international.blogspot.com's check revealed could not afford live chicken for this year's celebration on account of the economy of the country which has not really improved over the years. Instead, some opted for frozen chicken and fish which are comparatively cheaper than live chicken.
Generally, however, it was a low key celebration all over the state except for a few money bag politicians who used the period to host their supporters.
One of the residents, Mr Olayiwola Amos we spoke to also confirmed the situation, adding that even prices of rice are also not within the reach of the common man this festive season which actually compounded the whole thing.
"We thank God for sparing our lives to celebrate another Christmas this year in spite of the poor economic condition of the country. It has not been easy all through this year for an average man like myself. And that's why you notice that Christmas was not celebrated eloborately in many parts of the state. Many people can't even afford live chicken because of price which has skyrocketted and same goes for rice whether local or foreign . As for me, I only bought
frozen chicken and fish. We cut our coat according to the cloth. Everywhere is just too dry. We pray the economy becomes better next year."
