Opinion: It Is Time to Look Beyond Primate Ayodele’s ‘Political Prophet’ Label

By Josh Akinpelumi

For several years, Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church has been given the title of ‘Political Prophet’ because of his prophecies concerning the state of nations and elections.

Most of his critics have used the name ‘Political Prophet’ to define his ministry as one that focuses solely on politics. However, their definition is far from the truth, even though they seem unwilling to agree.

Of course, when it comes to politics in Nigeria, Primate Ayodele’s prophecies are top-notch. Even as Nigeria approaches another election year, he has given several prophetic pieces of advice to major candidates in the election. Therefore, the prophet is not in any way denying that he is a political prophet.

As a matter of fact, he has worn the garment of a ‘Political Prophet’ with pride and has mentioned several times during his world press conferences that every prophet is sent to a nation or nations. As long as that is established, every prophet is automatically a political prophet. Indeed, he is right.

In the Holy Bible, prophets were the ones who selected kings, not elections. Prophets anointed the next kings of nations, and kings sought their counsel before taking any action, no matter how small. Prophet Samuel anointed Saul to be king over Israel, and later anointed David to be king after Saul. When these kings sinned against God, the prophets would go to them and declare that their reign had been rejected by God, and that was final.

Jonah was sent to Nineveh to deliver a prophetic message. Prophet Elijah was treated like an oracle whenever the king wanted to take any action. Therefore, there is no way we can separate the prophetic ministry from the state of a nation, otherwise known as politics. So, if you call Primate Ayodele a political prophet, you are absolutely correct.

However, it would be wrong and myopic to think that all Primate Ayodele’s ministry is about is politics. Records have shown that while the political aspect may be more pronounced, his ministry transcends other sectors, including education, health, sports, society, and corporate organisations, to mention but a few.

We will not examine all these areas and how his prophecies have performed because they are too numerous. Instead, we will examine the impact of his prophecies on the health sector, not just in Nigeria but globally.

One of the health crises currently rocking the world, especially the African continent, is the Ebola virus, which has claimed thousands of lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and has reportedly spread to Kenya and Nigeria. According to figures from the DRC, 10,060 people have been infected and 4,887 have died since the virus was first detected in May in the vast Central African country, in what has been described as the deadliest outbreak in its history.

Meanwhile, Ebola emerged some years ago and was initially declared to have been eradicated, only for another strain to re-emerge this year with a deadly force, claiming the lives of several individuals.

However, as far back as 2024, Primate Ayodele had been warning about the re-emergence of the Ebola virus in Nigeria. At the time, he warned that Ebola could return to Nigeria in 2025, urging states across the nation to prepare adequately to prevent the spread from becoming widespread.

These were his words:

“Ahead of 2025, Nigeria needs to pray against the re-emergence of Ebola virus and its spread across various states.

“It will be more serious in Lagos, Oyo, Bauchi and Benue. We need to pray so that it won’t be too much.”
