Nigerians are set for an extended break as the Federal Government officially declares a two-day public holiday to mark the end of Ramadan, signaling the start of nationwide Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Eid-el-Fitr, one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, and confirmed in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
In his goodwill message, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful across the country for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, urging them to uphold the values practiced during the holy month.
He emphasized that love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice should remain guiding principles beyond Ramadan, shaping relationships and national cohesion.
Tunji-Ojo further called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the country’s peace, unity, and prosperity.
He also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged, reinforcing the spirit of compassion that defines Eid-el-Fitr.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
As celebrations begin across the country, Eid-el-Fitr once again brings a moment of reflection, gratitude, and unity, reminding Nigerians of the enduring power of faith and togetherness.
