The Lagos -Abeokuta Express Road seriously needs urgent attention of the Federal Government, Ogun and perhaps Lagos government at the moment before the beginning of this year's raining season, no doubt about that.
A visit to parts of the popular and busy road by The Message International reporter recently revealed that the current situation of the road has left majority of its users agonizing daily. And their cries have constantly fallen on deaf ears of the powers that be.
"This is sad! Yes, so sad that we can still have this kind of road in the southwest, especially the route that connects two most economically vibrant states in the region. The hitherto Express Road is now a death trap that claims lives daily due to its poor state. And the dilapidation has survived about four successive governments both at the federal and state levels, and with reckless abandon.
"Instead of finding a lasting solution and make it a little more motorable, the dual carriage way has reduced to shadow of its old self starting from U-turn bus stop, Abule Egba area of Lagos state to Ifo, Ogun state. What is supposed not to take motorists more than an hour before getting to Abeokuta is now consuming about three or four hours. Even, most commercial vehicles have lost their vehicles to the damaged parts of the road. The situation is even better now that the rain has stopped.
"What always baffles me is whether those concerned don't even feel the pains of the people plying the road daily, especially the commercial drivers and the commuters.
My question is "when will the mercies of the governments concerned beckon at this road, and will be fixed once and for all? Or se na like this e go de dey?", one of the stranded commuters lamented.
