That Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa is a benefactor to many people is never a gainsaying; for this indefatigable leader has greatly contributed to the development of individuals and the society at large in terms of infrastructural development, employment opportunities, juicy appointments and in so many other human enterprises too numerous to mention. All these claims are not just visible, but accessible and attestable for all and sundry to confirm; including many living witnesses that are still very much around.
Rt. Hon. Obasa like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had built and are still building many leaders particularly the youths by helping them to shape a secured and better future in their various careers and professions.
One typical example is the Rt. Honorable's Scholarship Scheme currently being enjoyed by over a hundred young people in various higher institutions within the country. These and many more philanthropic feats of Rt. Hon. Obasa has indeed made my new found love for this disctintive political leader deeper; considering the fact that I used to be one of his great critics in the past. Suffice it to say that all of the facts stated above are verifiable for all doubting Thomases to verify.
Moreover, the Ramadan period being the holy month of mercy and showing of love, especially to the less previlegded, many things are expected from the highly placed in the society; and the Rt .Hon. speaker, being a staunch Muslim, people expect him to do more for his immediate environment.
I was sufficiently motivated by such expectations to make some discreet enquiries regarding what the Rt. Hon. Speaker has been doing closer to home during this current Ramadan period.
Truth be told, I was again surprised (in fact, flabbergasted) at the huge amount of commitment and investment the Rt. Hon. Speaker has made and is still making into making the Ramadan period less stressful and less of an uphill task for many families here in Agege and Lagos State. I found out he was not only taking care of the Muslim faithful's physical needs such as providing food, he was also taking care of their spiritual needs such as providing Islamic lectures to feed their souls. And he has been doing this for several years; quietly and under the radar.
For instance, how many people know that Rt hon Obasa has been the major sponsor of the "TAFSIR" ( the Ramadan lecture) being aired on Lagos Television between 4:00 to 4:30 a.m every morning and on TVC between 5:30 to 6:00 a.m throughout the holy month? How many people know he is also the sole sponsor of the IFTAR program within and outside the Lagos State House of Assembly community from the first day of Ramadan till the end?
How many people know that the Rt.Hon. Speaker not only provide these foods for the body and the soul on a yearly basis but also complement these Godly gestures with cash donations to many Mosques and Chief Imams in support of their Ramadan programs during this fasting period?
All these and many more made me to conclude that the Rt Hon. Speaker is a devout but silent adherent of all that Islam teaches:
1. the profession of faith (shahada)
2. the offering of Prayers (salat)
3. the giving of alms (sakat) 4. fasting (sawn) and
5. the going on pilgrimage (Hajj)
That the Speaker does not go on public to announce many of these generous and philanthropic gestures should not becloud our judgement from recognising and acknowledging that Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa is indeed a good and God fearing leader who should be emulated by all and sundry for the grace of God to continue radiating on us all.
Once again, Ramadan Mubarak! to all the Muslim faithfuls.
May Allah the most magnificent and most benevolent accept our fasting and prayers...In sha Allah.
