Death has struck again in the Yoruba movie genre of the Nigerian movie industry as another top actor cum film maker, Chief Jimoh Aliu(MFR), popularly known as Aworo, passed on today, Thursday, September 17, 2020, throwing the entire industry into deep mourning again. The Ekiti born veteran and doyen of Theatre died few hours ago. He was aged 81.
According to the information at The Message International's disposal, Aworo died peacefully in his home town, Okemesi,Ekiti
While speaking to our correspondent on the death of Aworo, Alhaji Rammy Adebayo Shita-Bey said, " The death of Aworo is a Colossal loss to all of us, he was a father, mentor and great actor.
"I spoke with him this morning, he was just waving his hands, he couldn't talk, we are going to missing him dearly".
However, it's pertinent to let you know some facts about the late legendary Theatre-Art practitioner:
1. Aworo was born on November, 11, 1939 at Okemesi Ekiti, Ekiti state to a renowned Ifa priest.
2. He began his acting career in 1959, when Akin Ogungbe , visited his hometown.
3. Aliu became famous for his hit TV productions, "Arelu" and "Yanpon Yanrin", which bore famous characters like Fadeyi Oloro, Orisabunmi and Aworo.
4. He later joined the Nigerian Army in 1967, but retired in 1975 to focus on drama.
5. He was formerly married to his colleague and Orisabunmi star, Folake Aremu, before they parted ways after 25 years of marriage.
6. Awork, a former Assistant of Nigeria Theater Art Practitioners(ANTP) was also crowned with the title of Oba Asa of Yoruba land until death beckoned today, Thursday, September 17, 2020.
