The Oyo State Police Command on Sunday confirmed that the prime suspect in the serial killings in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, Sunday Shodipe, has escaped from its custody
The command said that the 19-year-old suspect, who was arrested and paraded alongside two others at the command headquarters, Eleyele, on July 17, and later charged to court and remanded in police custody, escaped on August 11.
Police spokesman Olugbenga Fadeyi said Commissioner of Police Nwachukwu Enwonwu has asked members of the public to be on the lookout for the suspect.
A woman was hacked down in the area on Thursday. No fewer than six persons, including a child, have been killed in the area in the last four months.
The police command could not say who the officers responsible for the suspect’s escape were, nor whether they were sanctioned.
