Muslims across the globe celebrated the end of this year's Ramadan fast yesterday, May 24, 2020, but almost unnoticed as there were no Eid prayers in many places in Nigeria, especially in the southwest where there was total compliance as regards COVID-19 lockdown rules which stipulated, among other things, that no religious or social gathering of more than 20 people is allowed any more to curb the rising cases of the deadly virus which has affected over 7000 people in the country presently and with over 200 deaths recorded so far.
Opera News visited some praying grounds and expansive central mosques in Abule Egba and Agege area of Lagos state yesterday, Sunday May 24, 2020 and confirmed that most other mosques were under lock and key and other praying grounds along the roads were completely deserved as almost all Muslims in the areas observed Eid prayer their living rooms while someone made use of their compounds.
Further checks revealed that there no visitations as everywhere was quiet as if it was just an ordinary day as no signs of festival mood was noticed in most people around the vicinity.
A call was later put through the mobile line of one of the Islamic scholars in Abule Egba north, Lagos, Alfa Ibrahim Al-sideeq who expressed satisfaction on the total compliance by Muslim across the state by nothing breaking any of the lockdown rules.
" We give thanks to Almighty Allah(God) for giving us the opportunity to part of this year's Ramadan and also be among those that witness the celebration of Eid-il-Fitr despite the fact that there's no elaborate celebration of the festival. It's better that way that Muslims cooperate with what the government wants. Everything was family affair, no party, no visitation. We sacrificed all these for the sake of ourselves. And I pray before big salary, everything would have been normal. There won't be anything like COVID-19 any more, by God's grace."
Also, Sheikh Abdulkateem Abdulwaheed Akomolesin, Imam, Ike Oluwa Central mosque, Powerline, Oko-Oba, Orile Agege crroborated the earlier speaker, adding that staying safe from the alarm danger of COVID-19 pandemic is the most important thing now, not gathering for any celebration whatsoever.
He also enjoyed Muslims worldwide to live by the virtues of Ramadan fast even whether or not the season has ended for this year.
"As Muslims, we should continue to live, behave and continue with our charity whether or not Ramadan is over. The 30-day fasting and prayer should live with us till another Ramadan so that all our acts of ibadah(worship) to Allah(God) will not be in vain."
