Famous Islamic scholar and Chief Imam, Oluwole-Ogba Central mosque, Sheikh Sa'dullah Bello Olohunlalaro has faulted Ghana's Chief Imam's claim that Muslims can drink alcohol this period to avoid the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19. He added that no true Muslim will recommend such a thing as it's outrightly forbidden for Muslims and He(Allah) has promised us in the Holy Qur'an that He won't put our healing in anything that He has forbidden. He therefore enjoined all Muslims globally to ignore Sharubutu's claim, describing it as not only rubbish, but baseless and grossly misleading.
Speaking with The Messageinternational.blogspot.com on the issue, the highly respected cleric said, "Please ignore that man, he's on his own. No true Imam or Muslim will say that. There's no where it's written in the Qur'an or Hadith that Muslims can drink alcohol as antidote to any ailment or disease whatsoever, no matter the condition. He's spoken out of context. His claim is total rubbish, baseless and misleading."
Meanwhile, the national Chief Imam of the Republic of Ghana, Sheikh Sharubutu has recommended that Muslims can consume alcohol now on account of the non-clinically confirmed report circulating on social media that drinking alcohol and rubbing it on the body can prevent one from contacting the deadly virus.
Since the story broke, the issue has become a public discourse, especially among Muslims home and abroad. And Muslims from different backgrounds have since been reacting to the issue.
However, Sharubutu's claim has been faulted by Sheikh Bello, urging Muslims to distance themselves from the ill-advice as it's against Allah's will.
