In the past few days, the Yoruba tradition was dragged in the mud when the two royal fathers from Osun state, The Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi( Telu1) and Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa, Oba Dhikrullahi Akinropo engaged engaged each other in a show of shame right before other Obas from Iwo and district where Oluwo is the paramount head and the Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG), Zone 2, Bashir Makama in Oshogbo office in a peace meeting over land dispute among the traditional rulers.
Since the incident which many have described as sacreligious and immoral, the social media has always been agog with different reports over the disturbing action of Oluwo towards his colleague which believed was a great disrespect to the allegedly attacked monarch and a slap on the culture of the Yoruba home and in the diaspora.
Some have, however, been calling for the the dethronement of Oluwo or his suspension by the chairman, Osun state Council of Obas, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi ( Ojaja 2), the Ooni of Ife.
Also, a lot of people who even knew nothing about the said royal rumble had equally lampooned Emperor Tell 1 for his violent action and a flagrant disregard to the convener of the said peace meeting, AIG Makama, adding that he should be charged to court and be maid to apologise to Agbowu who he allegedly assaulted.
However, Oluwo who has come out to defend his action said he did that in the defense of the defenseless in the area whose land has been sold cheaply by the Obas under him which Agbowu happened to be one of them.
According to the controversial monarch, his action was justified. This has since been causing another uproar even on the pages of newspapers as the king has been given many names and tagged, 'Royal Boxer of The Year.'
However, an Opera News creator had the opportunity of having a chat with a chieftaincy in the area who only volunteered to speak under the condition of anonymity. He ended up justifying Oluwo's action, insisting it was what Agbowu deserved.
According to the chief, "It's only those that lack knowledge about what's attached to the royal staff that will allow any Oba to point it at his eyes directly. Some among the Obas have that power, and they use it to deal with their fellow unsuspecting Obas and their victims will go blind later in life. One Oba is suffering that right now because of his carelessness. Oba Agbowu knew the implication of what he did, and thank God for Oluwo's smartness too. He was left with no option at that moment than to hit him back with his own staff too so that the evil Agbowu had planned to inflict on him will automatically be sent back to him. Agbowu is wicked, he can't come out and tell the people he didn't know it's a taboo to do that. Even, that's why most notable Obas are just keeping quiet on the issue. The issue will soon die a natural death. Even, I learnt the state government has put in place a mediation team who will resolve the royal logjam amicably.
"Then, on the bone of contention which is the land being illegally sold by some of the traditional rulers, I want to tell you with all sense of modesty, it's true that those royal fathers have passed their boundaries and should be dealt with. Oluwo is saying the truth,vIt's only that he didn't handle the issue maturely. Let me tell you the truth, the matter affected my family. The Oba in my area sold our family land which is about 10 hectares and gave us 10, 000 naira and no explanation was given to us. Even, the recent trend among some of these Obas in that consistency is the sale of land to the Fulani herdsmen which was also kicked against by Oluwo. So, those Obas are not doing well. Although, Oluwo himself may have his fault, I am sure the people in the communities he's fighting for will later praise him "
