LOW PATRONAGE HITS RAM MARKETS AS SALLAH IS JUST A FEW DAYS TO GO -SELLERS, BUYERS BLAME POOR ECONOMY, INSECURITY

As muslims all over the world are warming up for 2019 Eid-kabir, otherwise known as sallah, the symbolic animal(ram)for the annual sacrifice is now beyond the reach of the poor and even average Nigerians as the price is more than skyrocketing at the moment.

This has, however, put off some intending buyers who are preparing for annual and historic festival.

A couple of ram dealers and buyers the message international.blogspot.com spoke to blamed the ugly situation on the poor economy and security challenge the facing the country at the moment. They therefore urged the Federal Government to step up on the two key aspects against next year so that a lot of muslims nationwide who might have been deprived of observing the obligation this year can participate joyfully in the 2020 Eid-kabir.

 

According to Mallam Isa Abdullah, a ram sellers, “Rams are not easy to come by this year. That’s why we’re also selling them at high prices. Nigeria’s economy has not improved. Things are getting harder, and a lot of people can’t afford Rams this year. Also, there’s security problem all over the country.A lot of dealers feel unsafe to move from the north down south due to the issue of kidnapping which is not very rampant.

 

“In fact, an average ram that we used to sell for N40, 000 is now N60,000 or more while large and extra large goes for at least N85,000 depending on the size.”

One of the buyers who corroborated the earlier speaker also lamented, “Rams are no go area this year, especially for the poor. The prices are just too high. I kill two Rams every year, but this year, the situation is not the same. I managed to buy one, but I hope and pray next year will be better for us all.

 

“We only need to pray for our government to conquer the poor economic situation and insecurity facing the country. I believe things will be better next year.”
