+ WHY HIS POLITICAL RAZZMATAZZ WITH OBJ WILL FAIL
A couple of days back, Nigerian political atmosphere was ignited with robust attention when former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar visited his former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo(OBJ) in company of some christian clerics and elder statesmen, including famous Winner's Chapel General Overseer, Bishop David Oyedepo, Rev, Father Matthew Kukah and others at his Abeokuta, Ogun home.
The purpose of the visit was mainly for the Turaki Adamawa to seek forgiveness and endorsement of his candidacy from the former president with a view to furthering his political campaign which is targeted at guaranteeing him success in the race for the exalted seat come 2019.
However, the visit has been generating mixed reactions among many Nigerians, home and abroad. As many believed Atiku's visit to OBJ was just a political razzmatazz that will only lead the former number two citizen to no where as his present romance with the Ota farmer, as OBJ is fondly addressed, is nothing but a waste of time and resources as that can't rewrite his wrong doings and perception in the public eyes as also contained in OBJ' s popular book, My Watch while few others are still of the opinions that he can leverage on that and win the Herat's if the masses.
A political pundit, Lowo Adegbenjo, who has also joined many Nigerians in scoring Atiku low said the former Vice President is only gladdening his heart by parading himself as the next president and Commander-in- chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And that uniting with OBJ can't drive his ambition an inch as far as 2019 presidential election is concerned because OBJ himself can't add any political value to any candidate any more in this country on account of his being double standard within the political class and issues of national interest.
Speaking with the message international.blogspot.com on Saturday, August 13, 2018, Adegbenjo said, "Atiku has failed from inception; picking him as PDP's presidential candidate has only enhanced Buhari's chance of winning the 2019 presidential poll because Atiku has no such records that can convince reasonable Nigerians to vote for him in 2019. How can a person who allegedly spent over N40 b on primary election alone become president? Nigerians are not fools.
" Also, his romance with Obasanjo now has no meaning. Was it not the same Obasanjo who once described Atiku as the most corrupt Nigerian in his book, My Watch? How has Atiku suddenly be come born again? I am more than sure, their reunion will end an exercise in futility. OBJ himself can't contest and win election for himself again in this country let alone selling Atiku's candidacy to Nigerians."
Meanwhile, OBJ had earlier threatened not to forgive Atiku, and in case he tries to, may God not ever forgive him. He also wrote about the former Vice President in My Watch, pages 31-32, describing Atiku as a someone who has penchant for using money to advance his course and lacks transparency.
The paragraph read,
"What I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his parental background which was somewhat shadowy, Hus propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time, a propensity for poor judgement, his belief and reliance on marabous, his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy Hus way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety, truth and national interest for self and selfish interest."
