NIGERIANS LAMBAST CBN OVER CONTINUED CIRCULATION OF MUTILATED N100 NOTES 0

Nigerians, especially traders and commercial bus operators gave lampooned the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) over continued release of mutilated N100 notes into circulation as doing that is not only being considered inappropriate but ridiculous. They added that the apex bank should order the withdrawal of the over used notes and other denominations which have also suffered similar fate and come out with new notes as replacement if only to portray the country's image in a good light and ease transactions, especially among average Nigerians who deal in smaller currency denominations in their day- to-day activities.

"The Federal Government{FG) should order the Central Bank to withdraw all mutilated currencies, especially N100 notes. The thing is giving Nigerians serious headache. There's always fight on it everywhere, especially among average Nigerian traders, commercial bus drivers and comutters and others. CBN has to direct the commercial banks to stop releasing those notes to their customers after paying them in. The notes are just too dirty, and most of them have even torn. And that's why people reject them everywhere until recently when some Nigerians are getting used to such."

"It's not good at all, especially N100 notes. Even, those of us northerners that don't like rejecting such currencies have started rejecting them because if we give them out to our customers, they also reject them. So, it's high time the CBN withdrew all dirty and mutilated currencies from circulation. We need new ones."

" The state of the N100 in circulation now is appalling. It's very ridiculous that Nigeria, big as it is, can still be having such dirty currencies in circulation. I think everything boils down to poor handling especially by market women and commercial drivers. In most cases, they collect the money and squeeze them on the spot. It is bad. Some even inscribe on the notes, especially N100 which perhaps the most common among the denominations that have been bastardised. So, there's need for a strict regulation on handling of Nigerian currencies. "
